Roll36 is a camera, not a service. The film look is computed on your device, and there is no step at which an image is sent anywhere.

The short version
No photograph or recording you take with Roll36 is ever uploaded. What reaches our server is a random identifier for your install, your app and OS version, and a count of how many pictures you saved on a given day — used to tell free from paid and to see whether the app is being used.
✓ No images uploaded✓ No location✓ Works offline
📸1. Your photographs and recordings
This is the part most people want answered first, so it comes first.
Nothing is uploaded. Photographs and video you take with Roll36 are written to your device and, if you allow it, to your system gallery. They are not sent to us and there is no server that could receive them.
No AI or cloud processing. The film look is a colour lookup table applied by your phone's GPU. No third party sees your images.
We never read your photo library. The app shows you the pictures it took itself. It does not scan, index or open the rest of your photos.
🔒 Because the camera does not depend on a network, all of the above stays true with the phone in aeroplane mode.
📋2. What we do receive
The app talks to our server for two reasons: to know which plan your device is on, and to know whether the app is being used. That means the following:
2.1. Your install
A random identifier generated on first launch. It is not your device serial, your advertising ID, or anything that identifies you personally, and it is regenerated if you reinstall.
Platform, app version, OS version and language, so we can tell whether a problem affects one kind of device.
2.2. Usage
App opens and sessions, as counts.
How many pictures you saved on a given day, whether each was a photo or a video, and which film you had selected — so we know which stocks are worth adding more of. Not the picture, not its subject, not where it was taken.
When the daily limit stopped a save, as a count, so we can tell whether the free allowance is set somewhere sensible.
2.3. If you create an account
Your name and email address, so a paid plan follows you to a new phone. An account is optional; the camera works fully without one.
🚫 We do not collect: your location, your contacts, your photo library, your phone number, or any biometric data.
🎯3. How that information is used
Only for these purposes:
Telling your device whether it is on the free or paid plan
Keeping a paid plan working when you sign in on another device
Counting installs and usage in aggregate, to decide what to build next
Sending you a notification, if you turned notifications on
Answering you when you contact support
It is not used for targeted advertising, for building a profile of you, or sold to anyone.
🎤4. Permissions the app asks for
Camera — required. It is the app.
Microphone — asked for only when you switch to video, and only so recordings have sound. If you decline, video still records, silently.
Notifications — optional, and only if you want them.
The camera and microphone are active only while Roll36 is open and in the foreground. Android shows an indicator whenever either is in use; if you see it while the app is in the background, that is a bug and we want to hear about it.
💾5. Where your pictures are stored
A copy in the app's own private storage, which is what the in-app roll shows. Uninstalling the app deletes it.
A copy in your system gallery, under Pictures/Roll36 and Movies/Roll36, so your photographs survive an uninstall and appear in Google Photos like any other picture.
Deleting a picture in Roll36 deletes both copies. Neither copy is ever transmitted.
🤝6. Third parties
Google Play handles purchases. We never see your card details.
Firebase Cloud Messaging delivers notifications, if you enabled them.
No advertising network, no analytics broker, and no AI provider is involved in any part of this app.
⚖️7. Your rights
Ask what is associated with your install identifier, and ask us to delete it.
Delete your account, which removes the name and email attached to it.
Use the app entirely without an account.
Withdraw the microphone or notification permission at any time in system settings, without losing the camera.
Write to us using the contact page and we will answer.
👶8. Children
Roll36 is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them. There is nothing in the app that profiles a user.
📝9. Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect, the app will say so before the change takes effect. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
